I’ve always loved decorating sugar cookies at the Holidays and dreamed of owning a cookie business (plus, I love to collect cookie cutters).
After retiring from medicine in June 2020, I was asked to make cookies for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Then someone at the rehearsal dinner asked me to make cookies for her husband’s birthday party. Someone at the birthday party asked me to make cookies celebrating a work achievement… and so “Dana’s Cabana Cookies” Cottage Bakery was born! Why the Cabana? My mission is to bring joy to your celebration and to help you celebrate life! For me, cabanas always conjure up a happy, sunny place. I can’t hear the word “cabana” and not smile.
I wanted a name to represent a broad spectrum of events— weddings, births, baptism, birthday, graduation, retirement, sporting events, or any reason to celebrate!—and that people would remember. I have learned a great deal in the past few years. Baking /designing cookies is part chemistry and part art.
There is always a new technique to learn. I love the challenge. I have also met people that have brought me as much joy as I brought them.
Seeing the smile (and icing!) on kids’ faces, and tears of joy in a grandma’s eyes when I present her cookies to her, warms my heart.
In 2023, I moved into a new home with a custom made dedicated bakery area which is perfect for my bakery. A new logo, a new website and a tweak of the name, and I am ready to create cookies. Let me know what I can create for your next celebration!
